garbage collection information
Garbage collection will remain the same as in previous years. Regular garbage will be picked up weekly at the curb on homes on Tuesday morning. Commercial units and buildings that have more than three (3) residential units must provide their own garbage service.
RECYCLING REQUIREMENTS
Every residential family is required to participate in the Recycling Program. Pickup is Bi-weekly, on the same day as your trash pick-up. Put Items in recycle container from the Borough or other receptacles, marked "Recyclables".
NO PLASTIC BAGS CAN BE USED.
RECYCLABLE ITEMS: Aluminum cans, bi-metal cans, clear, any color glass including green and brown. Plastics #1 and #2, newspapers. If any plastic was used to hold automotive fluids or toxic chemical it is not recyclable.
Refrigerators and Air Conditioners
Items that contain Freon must have a sticker identifying the recovery of Freon has been made on the item before disposal. If the item does not have a recovery sticker the garbage company is prohibited from picking up the item. Private businesses are available to recovery the freon or dispose of the item. Applicances that normally need freon recovery services prior to disposal include refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers and water coolers.
Two organizations that provides disposal service can be reached at 1-888-GO-FREON (1-888-463-7366) or on the Internet at www.appliancedisposal.org. Or, call Appliance Warehouse 412-381-8800. Expect a service fee for recovery of the freon and disposal of the appliance.
Holiday Schedule
A holiday that occurs on a Saturday or Sunday will not affect the collection schedule. For example, July 4, 2010 is on a Sunday so the collection schedule for that week remains the same.
